Challenge Your Fear To Attain Your Dream
A friend posted this picture on Facebook to say this was one of her achievements from her bucket list. I was totally blown-away by the photo. This was not taken by her, but she has ridden this zip line whilst she was on holiday. She said with having to deal with the fear she was feeling at the time and trying to focus on the ride, she could never of taken a photograph as well!
I find this shot just keeps me looking and it holds my attention. I think it must be such an exhilarating and exciting experience. Yet, I can totally relate to the fear she experienced and for me the fear is just as tangible and equally as stronger feeling as my excitement. How perplexing?
There is a part of me that could see myself doing this. I could imagine the beauty captured in my mind, the vivid colours, the wind blowing on my face, the sense of nothingness being beneath me and around me. But likewise, I can also literally feel the fear as well. You see, I am frightened by heights. It’s really hard to explain what being frightened of heights is like, but literally the ground moves in your head as you look down. For me looking directly ahead is better than directly down. The fear I sense is very much built up from all my past experiences of fearing heights even when I have over come them to complete certain fair ground rides, etc those feelings are still very much a part of me, fixed, tangible and very real.
So how do you push past such tangible fear in pursuit of a dream goal that also emotes the most amazing thrill or buzz inside you?
I was speaking to a friend and fellow Coach who recently completed a fire walk. It was a similar conundrum for he, in that there was a real fear of doing this walk but likewise she recognised, that to complete it would unlock something big inside her. If she could achieve that walk, she knew it would be such a successful achievement she could use it to push past other challenges going on in her life that she needed to get over.
I do believe it is an amazing experience to overcome, break through or push past a major fear in your life. At times it can feel like bursting through a major wall or barrier in your life and there is nothing like being on the other side of it.
I feel I am at such a place in my life where I need to really do something extreme in the fear department in order to overcome it and so release myself from current patterns in my life, if that make sense? Sometimes, there is a lot to be said about going straight to the top and doing the most difficult thing once and once only instead of building up to it by overcoming a number of increasing smaller fears building up to it. For me it’s like going for the strike in 10 pin-bowling, no other moves count. At that moment in the game, you just want to get that ultimate score because your fed-up of the past results and you want to achieve that goal and if that means you win the game, great!
Its funny, how things change. But, as you work on yourself and change you really can’t predict what will happen next. A quote I heard recently that now stays with me because I have adopted it for myself is:-
You are today where your mind has put you, and you will be where you are tomorrow because of where your mind brings you.

I certainly was not thinking like this three or four weeks ago, but all of a sudden this how I am now view things and considering what can I do, that’s extreme in challenging my fears, that will release me closer to attaining my dream? I will let you know on what I have decided:-)
