Celebration Time!


One of the things that is important to do with any goal is not just to focus on the end point but to enjoy the journey.

Back in September 2020 when I was inspired to start writing again, by writing as much as I could in October, after long periods of nothing. My goal was just to write consistently for that time.

I am really pleased to be now writing my 150th post for this blog. Writing has been such an outlet for me especially during lockdown. One of my heartfelt posts was in Writing – The Beauty In Writing!

I have been writing consistently for all three of my blogs and since the 1st October I have written 98 posts all together including my faith posts, short stories and poems.

I have also started a writing course in order to learn more and to move me towards my end goal of publishing my first book.

So as always, I’m all about personal Development and forever moving yourself forwards in life.

I am changing my circle in the process and loving my new journey.

So I am now looking forward to my next milestone which for me will be 250 posts!

Breathe – Inhale, Exhale


Breathe - Inhale, Exhale

I am such a morning person. I love the stillness and tranquillity of early morning’s when all you can hear is quiet. A time to be still and breathe. To listen and think.

Breathing at it’s best is at a steady, calm pace. Inhale through your nose and exhale steadily through your mouth. There is a rhythm to be found that slows the heart rate and slows down our thoughts.

Stress, pressure, and challenging situations bring about the opposite effect. They stir up anxiety, chaotic and rapid thoughts and ideas. You may find yourself unable to sleep throughout the night. Being stressed, has you in constant tension. With heightened emotions, that can make you feel overwhelmed and out of control. Now, I know some people love to be challenged. But this is unwelcomed challenge. Things that are out of your control, with a negative impact on you.

Like so many of us this year, I have had my own challenging times. So much so, I felt I needed to create my own way of getting through this year. The mental and emotional challenges have been real. Bereavement, Covid19, lockdown’s, separation from friends and family, never ending media updates and constant negative news, initially made life difficult.

I found myself having to review everything and like many, way up what was really important to me and being intentional about those things.

So what did I do, in order to breathe and bring peace to my mind?

  • I decided to reduced how much news and social media info I listened to. Especially at the beginning of the year, in March. As I found myself in emotional overwhelm at times, because there was so much to process. The news was so inconsistent and fear and uncertainty was just being magnified. “Remember how people were bulk buying toilet rolls and supermarket shelves became empty? Flour became so scarce, along with other items such as pasta, that they had to be rationed, as it seemed in the UK, the world and his wife decided to take up baking.😊
  • For a while during the first lockdown, I had to learn how to do friends and family through face-time on WhatsApp, House Party and Zoom sessions. I remember the thing I missed most was to hug my sister, nephews, niece, etc.
  • I decluttered in order to make space and worked on my neglected garden following the loss of my mum in April. My garden became my therapist in a way I didn’t expect. It gave me a totally different focus and gave reason to become more creative. To plan, to nurture, to grow.
  • My morning’s have always been devotional time for me. A time that has always been special and enabling me to think, pray and meditate.
  • Writing – has always been my thing. It allows me to breathe in two ways. My creative side is expressed through my blog and using Canva which allows me to do so many things. The other is to journal my inner thoughts and emotions when I need to.
  • I also started to play a lot more instrumental worship music.
  • Reading😊

All these things have enabled me throughout this year to change the pace of my day, and I find myself mentally in a much better place today. The loss of my mum and younger cousin, are always just a thought away. I have been laughing one moment and a song or a word has thrown me into instant tears. So I give space for bereavement to also have it’s time.

I pay attention to the pace of my life. Making room to breathe. To slow down. To rest and to listen. To cut out the noise and the hubbub, and to allow myself to slowly inhale and exhale.

I realise that we dont all do life the same and what works for me may not necessarily work for you. But I think there are always touch points of learning and things you can draw or take from.

Things To Consider?

  1. What’s out of whack for you? Poor sleep, feeling irritable, feeling low, not wanting to be around people? How can this be improved? Small steps are better than no steps😊
  2. When was the last time you laughed, truly laughed? What enables you to laugh? A funny film, dancing, a favourite commedian?
  3. Are you eating well? Or are you comfort eating with lots of sugar or high caffeine? Just as a good diet is important for children to learn well in school by supporting their minds. So it is for us as adults. I started to drink more herbal teas, (great way to add antioxidants) I also reduced my meat intake and found some good quality multivitamins supplements. What would improve things for you?
  4. Tony Robbins recommends to change your state of mind through movement. So how could you change your posture? Maybe, by going for walks. Adding some kind of exercise into your week?
  5. Gratitude – what are 5 things you are grateful for? Maybe this can be a quiet time during your day to think?
  6. Journaling is always a great way to refocus your mind.
  7. How do you support your creative side? Drawing, writing, cooking, singing, sewing, designing? Doodling?
  8. Time with family or friends- it’s not been the best year but are you staying connected, even through phone calls. It is so easy to loose touch.

I hope you find some way to take time out for you? Mental health is so important today.

Invest In Yourself!


I have both learnt and observed over the years the importance of ‘investing in yourself.’ Personal Development is great but to become your very best will require the support of others at some point.

The thing about investment, is although there is often a price. ‘Free‘ and ‘Frugal’ do not a business make for everyone🤣 They are both crippling attitudes, if this your mindset for life and yourself. ‘A poverty mindset’ is a term you may not have heard of before, but it is used and taught on in church (Well the churches I have attended over the years🤣).

A mindset based on fear and limitation can become a mental prison that impairs you from moving forward, because what’s ahead is not easy, costs a fair bit of money, requires a lot of time, means giving up personal fun or luxuries. The unwillingness to move past such negative thought patterns brings about one outcome ‘poverty’ – a constant living in mental, and to a certain extent, physical lack.

Free‘ does not give you access to the best all the time, and any one in business knows ‘free’ may be a way to attract a customer, but you cannot run a profitable business on ‘Free.’ You must know what your service or product is worth, and price it accordingly, in the relevant market with the expectation of attracting the right customer. Boutiques are not found on the corner of local streets. A prestigious car franchise is found where wealth is common. Likewise, a pound store will be based where shoppers will benefit from the choice of, everything for a £1 or set at a cheap or discounted price point.

When it comes to investing in yourself, I think there needs to be an openness to consider options that may challenge you financially but have the potential to move you into a better place, either as a person or for your business.

Coaches and Mentors

I have benefited from both of these in my life. Both are very different in their roles, and I have learnt over the years that people do not always understand the difference between the two.

A Coach is a role that most people associate with sport. But over the past twenty years the Coaching Profession has become more defined outside of sports world and there are all kinds of specialist coaches today. From health to spiritual, Mindset to Business. To become a qualified or a Certified Coach requires study and there are a number of training companies. The better ones are also connected or affiliated with acreditation companies such as ICF (The International Coaching Federation). A Coach will work with where you are now and where you want to get to. Understanding, that the answers are already inside you, and they just need to be unlocked by you!

A few key types are:-

Personal Performance/Life Coach – This type of Coach can look at topics that impact an individual from most aspects of a person’s life with the aim of supporting them to move forward. However, a Coach is not a Counsellor. They are not there to delve into emotional historical trauma. So a Coach will not work for everyone. That’s why it’s important to have a discovery session first in order to ascertain whether a Coach is for you or not?

Executive Coach – These Coaches work with Executives in the corporate world in order to bring out the best in the individual or the best in their leadership teams in their business. This is a niche market with understood specifics and clear frameworks.

Business Coach – whether you are just starting a business, see yourself as a small business or you run a large corporation. There are Business Coaches that cover all types of business. Once again working with individuals or teams with the aim of progressing and improving your outcomes.

Educational Coach – Specialising once again in a niche area, this type of Coach will understand the educational system and those that work within it.

NLP – Neuro-Linguistic Programming – You can train to become a Pratitioner or Master in this field of this type of coaching. As the name indicates, this type of Coach works with a focus on the brain and how it works in establishing thought patterns in order to establish behaviours. Therefore, to change behaviour – requires changing mindsets.

Neurology – The mind and how we think

Linguistics – How we use language and how it affects us.

Programming – How we sequence our actions to achieve our goals.

Coaching brings its benefits so much so I fell in love with it and became one.

Mentors

Mentoring consists of a long-term relationship focused on supporting the growth and development of the mentee or protogè. A Professional Mentor becomes a source of wisdom, bringing teaching, and support, to the individual, specialising in a specific area of expertise. For example your Mentor has been in business for a number of years and now has a multi million turn over. Has always been an entrepreneur – things you desire for yourself, so you may seek them out for yourself or they may have spotted you.

The other type of Mentor could be a Spiritual Mentor. This is a more holistic relationship. Once again, it’s about the mentee or protegè’s development. But now from a spiritual perspective. Taking into account their faith and their aspirations etc. This type of Mentor does not necessarily have to specialise in a specific field. This is a more complicated relationship and moves beyond money.

I would say not everyone will be looking or needing such a Mentor. But if you do, I think you will know? Because such a need comes from a deep place and it’s not a simple black and white situation. Therefore, it’s not easy to explain. Once again I have also had a Spiritual Mentor for a time in my life and I both learnt and grew a lot from it.

So don’t be afraid to invest in yourself. Seek the benefits of having a Coach or Mentor if that is what you need? But equally if you have been thinking of becoming a coach, then go for it! You could be just what someone is waiting for! 🤩

As a Coach I always work with the view of ‘beginning with the end in mind’  by Stephen Covey.  But, its important to recognise both ‘the journey’ along the way, as well as the ‘destination.’

The people you meet, the things you do or do not do. The lessons you have to learn and the opportunities you have to share and teach.  The journey is a deeper experience than the ‘living in the fast lane’ experience and the constant adrenaline rush.  It’s the things that make life valuable and worth living for; the things that take you past the gloss and shine of life and brings you into a richer place that’s important and needs to be treasured. It is the tapestry of your life filled with vibrant colour and quality stitching amid the imperfections of our humanity.

Success – Is It Your Driver of Self Worth?


Success. Do we all want to be successful? Well I don’t think I can speak for all of mankind with a yes or a no. But what I can say from a westernised economic perspective, is that most people who go into Business or go into employment, look for some level of success in what they do.

Even as writers you write in the hope of building an audience and seeing your work being read.

What is success? The achieving of results wanted or hoped for. – Cambridge Dictionary

So success is measured. There is a pre-determined result wanted or hope for. You must know what you are looking for or expecting to see, in order to achieve it. It is a focal point for what ever it is that you are doing.

Success has a clear goal in mind. But the level of the goal determines the level of success. If I wanted to play darts and my goal was to hit the number 20 once. I might break into my happy dance as soon as my dart lands and stays for the first time in the number 20 section in the dart board. Was I successful? Yes! Could I now become a world champion? Of course not. Because, that result of hitting the number 20 once, isn’t good enough or high enough a goal to become a world champion.

So my expectations need to stretch me. Take me to a place that demands what I currently know, plus what I need to learn to get me to the next level.

For some people this gap between where they are now and where they want to get to, can be seen as “Their Drive,” “their ambition” or “their Why?”

The differentiators between highly successful people for me, is found in this gap of how you get from your current A to your next B? They have a relentless pace and secondly, their next result has them stretching up or climbing to a level they have never been before.

So what is the cause for your drive, your ambition, your why? Clearly their can be many things. It could be a fear of poverty. Their are many who have come out of scarcity and proverty to become millionaires and billionaires. But, as I have asked in the title of this post? Success – Is it Your Driver of Self Worth?

That is not an obvious driver to see. It is a undercurrent in someone’s life. The un-spoken reason to what they do and why they do it. But, if you know what to look for and if you ask the right questions it can slowly become more and more apparent.

What is self-worth? The value you give to your life and achievements. Cambridge Dictionary

Clearly self worth is a huge thing and if your life is looked at from the point of acievement and success, it is evident that your self worth needs to be in a good place. This means a person can be setting goals that they are clearly reaching successfully and as a result becoming very wealthy but if their undercurrent to what they are doing is connected to their self worth it means their achievements may never be enough. They will instantly move onto the next thing without seemingly taking a breathe to appreciate what they have achieved. It’s easy to see this person as very competitive, a winner, a high achiever. It is also easy to miss the pain that low self worth causes until cracks start to appear in a person’s life.

Low self esteem is a poor foundation to build on. It will always undermine success. It is a hidden driver to success and stops a person from truly appreciating and valuing who they are. Self esteem is foundational and is often established during our childhood years. So poor self esteem normally stems from out of our childhood and shapes us as adults.

As in all things. low self esteem can be built up. But it first has to be acknowledged before it can be worked on.

Self esteem needs to be connected to a positive mentality about yourself and how you do life. Things that cannot be bought by money for one. Having a baseline where you believe “You’re not good enough, ” requires an answer that is not based on things. This is because things come and things go i.e a job. So if you are only good enough because of your job and you are made redundant, all of a sudden you would have lost who you are. Therefore, a strong self-esteem comes out of being stable and resilient. Both mentally and emotionally.

I believe we all have value and bring something valuable to life’s table, once we understand ourselves and appreciate ourselves.
